Yarn representation

Information provided on this website is for guidance only.  Whilst The Golden Skein Limited (TGS) endeavours to accurately represent colours in photographs and colour descriptions, it is not always possible because monitor settings vary considerably, as does each individual’s perception of colour.

Yarn weights and measurements and fibre content are approximate and intended for guidance only, and are based on the supplier’s / dyer’s specifications. Yarn is hand-dyed by the designers using their own individual methods and due to the nature of dying methods TGS cannot guarantee identical skeins of yarn, although will endeavour to send close colour matches for any multiple skein orders.

TGS cannot guarantee that skeins will be colourfast, although all our dyers will rinse skeins multiple times to remove excess dye.  TGS recommends handwashing finished projects separately in cool water for the first few washes or until you are satisfied that there is no colour bleeding. Gentle handwashing with a wool detergent is recommended thereafter to preserve the intensity of the colours and prevent felting of non-superwash yarns.

Shipping and delivery

No goods will be dispatched until cleared payment has been received.   Club orders are dispatched on the dates listed on the individual club details page.  All UK orders are sent Royal Mail First Class unless Special Delivery is requested (available for an additional charge, and recommended for orders over £46 in value).  First Class usually arrives within 1-3 working days but at busy times of year or in severe weather conditions, for example, may take much longer.

For EU and international deliveries we will use Royal Mail’s standard small parcel posting service.  Alternative delivery methods available on request for an additional charge.  Delivery estimates will vary by destination. TGS is a UK company, located in the UK and all transactions are subject to UK law.  International orders may be subject to a customs charges or import duties. This is the responsibility of the buyer/recipient.  Please do not ask TGS to commit fraud by marking goods as ‘gifts’ for customs purposes.

Royal Mail do not investigate missing items until 15 working days have passed.  Please advise us if your order does not arrive within this timescale.  Following postage, TGS is not responsible for any delay in delivery of your parcel.


In compliance with the Distance Selling Regulations, purchases may be returned within 7 days of receipt by the buyer, for a full refund. Whilst TGS will refund the original postage payment, the buyer is responsible for the cost of returning the item, unless the return is due to an error by the TGSor fault that was not indicated at time of sale.  Products must be returned in the same condition as received.   TGS recommend that returns are sent by a postal service which insures the package contents, because proof of posting is not proof of delivery, and TGS cannot accept liability for returned goods which are lost or damaged in transit.  Please contact TGS before returning goods at info@thegoldenskein.com

Club membership

Membership of any club is only for the term for which you have originally signed up and paid for (in full).  There is no guarantee that you will be able to continue membership at the expiry of the term.  This is due to the limited nature of the clubs and that memberships are granted on a first come first served basis.

Payments by instalment 

If you select for the ‘payment by instalment’ option on the checkout for your chosen club, you agree to these terms and conditions. On checkout, you will be billed for the first monthly payment. Thereafter, you will receive an email to the email address given at checkout which will allow you to setup automatic monthly billing for your subscription. The monthly amount will be equal to the first payment made at checkout and will continue for the duration of your subscription.  For example, if you choose the 3 month (1 package) option, you will be billed for 2 further monthly payments.

The payment date will be the first of each month to allow this to clear and postage to take place on the allocated posting day. This will mean that regardless of which date you subscribe and pay your first monthly payment, all further payments will happen on the first of the month.

Where payments are made by instalment, TGS will only dispatch goods once all 3 instalments (payments) for that quarter’s club have been received in full, provided that the full amount is received within 2 months of the advertised dispatch date for that quarter’s club.  If full payment is not received within 2 months of the dispatch date, all previous payments will be forfeit.  Instalment payments are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to any other club or any later quarter of the same club.

For example, if you have agreed to take part in the Power of 3 Club for Summer 2014, with a dispatch date of 1 June and you make payments in April and on 1 May but not on 1 June, you have until 1 August to make the final payment in order to receive the yarn dyed for the Summer yarn instalment, or you will lose the payments you have already made and not receive the yarn package.  We regret that you will not be able to carry over the payments to the Autumn yarn instalment.
